About Tahire

Tahire Erman conducts research on migration and urbanization, with a particular focus on gender and space, examining land occupation and self-built housing (squatting/informal housing), along with their recent transformation through urban renewal projects. She will support the research group during the summer semester of 2026 as a Mercator Fellow, focusing on the areas of voluntariness, migration, and activism. Her most recent publications include the article “Spaces of In/formality in the Turkish Humanitarian Field: Spatial and Discursive Practices Impacting Refugee Women” (with N. Zadhy Cepoglu, 2024). A book titled Gendering Urban Renewal: Formalization, Informalization, and Everyday Governance in Urban Turkey will be forthcoming in 2027.
