Ben Colburn is a political philosopher and ethicist at the University of Glasgow. He has a particular interest in the nature and value of autonomy, its relationship with individual responsibility, and its importance in liberal political philosophy. He is also interested in exploring how these foundational ideas can be put to work in policy and practice. He has a number of ongoing collaborative research projects along these lines, including work on refugee education, end of life care, and urban design. Among his most recent publications is the article “Autonomy, Voluntariness, and Assisted Dying.” (Journal of Medical Ethics, 2020).
