About Odile

Odile Mackett is an associate professor in the Department of Anthropology and Development Studies at the University of Johannesburg (South Africa) and an economist by training. During the summer semester of 2026, she is joining the research group as a Mercator Fellow at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. Her research interests are related to the division, quality, and definition of both paid and unpaid work, how households and families are structured and formed around these types of work, and how the state and its politics interacts with households and the market to reinforce the gendered and racial division of work. Among her recent publications there is the co-authored book Feminist Political Economy. A Global Perspective (Agenda Publishing/Cambridge UP, 2023) and the Article Diversity in feminist economics research methods: trends from the Global South (Journal of Economic Methodology, 2025).
